Angels Close to Deal With White Sox for Paul Konerko?

by @ 3:11 pm. Filed under 2008 Angels, Angels Season Lookbacks

MLB.com is reporting that the Angels are in talks with the White Sox for a deal that would send Howie Kendrick and Ervin Santana to the White Sox for slugger Paul Konerko.  While I’d love to see a guy like Konerko driving in runs in an already solid Angels lineup, losing Kendrick and Santana would both be big.  I’d hate to cut bait on Santana after that rough season in 2007 and Kendrick looks like a keeper.  Still, it looks like the Angels have to keep up with the Joneses and right now, they’re in a pack that includes teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers and Indians.  Konerko would give the Angels a much needed immediate bump, but the future cost could be pretty high if Kendrick turns out to be a All Star and Santana bounces back and puts together a few nice seasons going forward.
