The Angels haven’t scored seven or more runs since May 18th’s win, but they touched home seven times to get a 7-1 victory in the first game of the Interleague series with the Phillies.
Vlad led things off with a two-run homer in the first. He ended up 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs on the night to extend his hit streak to 11 games and his June average to .434. They added another in the second and rallied for three in the sixth to put the game nearly out of reach before capping it off with one more in the eighth. Howie Kendrick was 4 for 5 with an RBI, Anderson 3 for 4 with 2 runs, and Mathis 2 for 3 with an RBI. The Angels had a season-high 17 hits, 15 more than the Phillies could produce.
Ervin Santana held the Phillies to two hits and an unearned run to improve his record to 9-3. The unearned run came in the sixth off Casey Kotchman’s fielding error, one of four Angel errors on the night. Jose Arrendondo and Justin Speier then each threw a hitless, scoreless inning apiece to seal the win.
