The Angels beat the White Sox in Chicago last night to snap their eight-game win streak and to give the Angels their fourth win in the last five.
The Angels were held to three runs on three hits, but that’s all the offense needed to take the 3-1 win. All runs came in the fifth, lead by a Torii Hunter solo shot for the Angels first hit of the night. Robb Quinlan singled and then scored along with Mike Napoli, when White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd hit two men to force Quinlan and Napoli home.
Joe Saunders was just two outs away from a complete game, but left with one out in the ninth, his longest career outing, to earn his eighth win to tie Dice-K for the most in the AL. He now also sports the AL’s third best ERAat 2.31. Saunders quickly recovered from the flu to hold the Sox to one run on three hits. K-Rod came on in the ninth and allowed an RBI-single to Jermaine Dye for the Sox only run of the game. He then fanned Jim Thome and Joe Crede to end the game and give him his 20th save.
The two teams go again today at 1pm. Jered Weaver has rejoined the team and will take the mound after skipping out on Toronto’s trip for a stomach blockage. He will face lefty John Danks, who stands at 3-3. Danks faced the Angels in Anaheim last Tuesday, and earned the no decision after pitching a scoreless 6 2/3.
