by @ 9:34 pm. Filed under 2008 Angels

The Angels were down early and a fell a couple runs short of a comeback win in their 6-4 loss to the Rays, their fourth loss in the last five games.

The Angels were in a 2-0 hole after the second but Juan Rivera’s solo shot in the third narrowed the Rays’ lead, but Rivera grounded out with the bases loaded in the fourth to put the Angels’ potential rally to a halt. The Rays then put up three runs in the bottom half of the third inning, and the Angels rallied for three in the the sixth and seventh innings at an attempt for a come-from-behind win. Garret Anderson extend his hit streak to 21 games with an RBI-double in the sixth, and scored on a sacfly by Rivera. Vlad had an RBI-single in the seventh to cut the Rays’ lead to one.

Jon Garland gave up five early runs to take the loss. He gave the Rays the lead in the second by giving up a two-run homerun in the second before giving up three more runs the next inning, two off another homerun. He gave up a total of 10 hits through six and took his 8th loss.

Despite the storm, the Angels are still hoping to play on Tuesday to even up the series with the Rays. Ervin Santana will make the start and go for his 14th win after getting the no-decision last Wednesday in a three-run, 6 1/3 inning effort. Santana will face James Sheilds, who is 10-7 and is 3-2 lifetime against the Angels.
