The Angels completed their sweep of the Mariners in Seattle, their first of the season, and continued to extend their win streak to eight games.
The Angels got on top first with three runs in the first. Reggie Willits had a leadoff walk before Macier Izturis singled and Howie Kendrick doubled to score Willits. Torii Hunter then had a two-RBI single. The Mariners closed the gap to 3-2 over the next two innings but the Angels added two more in the fourth when Hunter walked and got to third on Gary Matthews Jr.’s single. Mike Napoli then had a sacfly to score Hunter and Matthews Jr. scored on Brandon Wood’s two-out single.
Jered Weaver improved to 5-6 after getting the win on four runs, ten hits, and 3 K’s through six innings. Darren Oliver and Justin Speier each pitched a scoreless inning apiece for the hold. K-Rod then again had a 1-2-3 ninth for his 24th save.
The Angels now have 19 road wins, which is better than their 18 at home. They have Thursday off before heading to Oakland to take on the A’s, who have a four-game win streak of their own and stand 3 1/2 behind the Angels.
