Dodgers starter Chan Ho Park held the Angels to four hits and no runs as the Angels take just their second loss of the roadtrip.
The Angel offense barely had any scoring opporunities, with no walks and fanning 14 times in the game. In the first, Erick Aybar and Garret Anderson got on with singles to bring Vlad to the plate. Vlad, after sitting Wednesday’s game for symptoms of the flu, grounded into a double play to end the rally. Vlad did single in the fourth, though, to extend his hit streak to 16 games. The only other Angel hit was Aybar’s one-out double in the sixth. He moved to third on a fielding error but was left on base when Kendrick struck out and Anderson was retired.
Joe Saunders failed to get his MLB-leading 12th win. He struggled through five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four walks. He gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead by giving up a solo shot to Russell Martin in the first. He had three scoreless innings, including escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third, before giving two more up in the fifth, one unearned. Justin Speier came in for two innings and gave up a three-run shot to Andre Ethier to put the Dodgers up 6-0. The Angels then had no chance to come back, as the Dodger bullpen fanned the last six Angel batters in order.
