Angels Keep Dodgers Hitless but Still Take Loss

by @ 11:31 am. Filed under 2008 Angels, Angels Season Lookbacks

Jered Weaver and Jose Arrendondo combined for eight hitless innings but an unearned Dodger run in the fifth gave the Angels a 1-0 loss. It is just the fifth time in baseball history that a team keeps the opponent hitless but still takes the loss.

The Angels had just five hits on the night and couldn’t produce any runs to take the loss. Howie Kendrick was 2 for 4 and that’s about all the offense to speak of.

Jered Weaver took his eighth loss in a rare feat, keeping the Dodgers hitless and fanning six through six innings. Matt Kemp got on in the fifth and took third on a couple of errors and scored on Blake DeWitt’s sacfly. Arrendondo threw the seventh and eighth and struck out three in his hitless effort.

The Angels look to avoid being swept by sending John Lackey to the mound today. Lackey looks for his sixth win with his 1.65 ERA. He will face Derek Lowe, who is 5-7 with a 4.05 ERA.
