After two straight series’ losses on the road, the Angels took the Twins into extra innings on Thursday but a triple and single in the 12th gave the Twins the win.
Mark Teixeira had a solo homerun in the first to take a quick 1-0 lead, but the Angels would only come up with four more hits after that, with no runs, to take the loss. Teixeira had two hits while Garret Anderson went 0 for 5, ending his hit streak at 23 games.
The line for Jered Weaver looks like a near-perfect win: 8 innings, 6 K’s, one run on five hits. He gave up a run in the fifth on a double and RBI-single, and left after eight with the 1-1 tie. K-Rod, Shields, and Oliver each threw an inning, keeping the Twins scoreless to send the game to the 12th. Justin Speier then gave up a leadoff triple in the 12th, off the glove of Torii Hunter, before surrendering the go-ahead run on an RBI-single. Speier takes the loss, his third in the Angels’ past six losses.
The Angels can even up the series tonight, with Joe Saunders taking the mound to face lefty Glen Perkins. Saunders is unbeaten in his last six starts, and is shooting for his Perkins is 10-3 and is facing the Angels for the first time in his career.
