Angels Score 10 to Power Past the Yankees

by @ 1:04 pm. Filed under 2008 Angels, Angels Season Lookbacks

The Angels took their first from the visting Yankees on Friday night 10-5 and have now won three of their last four.

The Angels pounded 17 hits to get their 10 runs, with four each by Howie Kendrick and Torii Hunter and the 3-4-5 combo going 9 for 15 with 6 RBI and 7 runs scored. The Angels chased Ian Kennedy away in the third inning after scoring five off him with nine hits. They scored two in the first off Hunter’s two-out two-RBI double. They then rallied for three in the third, led by RBI-singles by Vlad, Garret Anderson, and Kendrick. The got another in the fourth before putting four up in the seventh inning, led by Hunter’s solo homerun and capped off by Teixeira’s RBI-single.

Jered Weaver threw a decent six frames and got enough run support to earn the win. He gave up a solo shot to A-Rod in the second and left the bases loaded in the third after giving up two runs. Weaver gave up two more in the sixth before leaving after the inning. Jose Arrendondo gave up one hit through two for the hold and Scot Shields put two on but kept the Yankees from touching home in the ninth.

The Angels look to make it two straight from the Yankees on Saturday’s day game. John Lackey will take the mound to go for his 10th win, and will see the return of battery mate Mike Napoli, who was activated from the DL yesterday. Dan Giese will start for the Yankees. Giese is 0-2 in two starts.
