The A’s keep winning, and in the meantime, the Angels can’t even break a tie with the Rangers. The Angels and Rangers each took a game from each other in their two game mini-series and while they both remain tied, they both moved a game down from the A’s, who have won six straight.
On Tuesday, the Angels stormed from behind to win. Down 3-0, the Angels scored six unanswered runs before the Rangers tied it up. The Rangers took a one run lead in the seventh but once again, the Angels came back with three runs in the ninth to win it. Chone Figgins two run triple was the key hit in that ninth inning. Vladimir Guerrero hit a three run homerun. Ervin Santana was knocked around and it was Hector Carrascco who picked up the win despite giving up the go ahead run in the seventh to the Rangers.
Yesterday’s game was a blowout. Joe Saunders was simply destroyed and he dropped his first career start. He saw his ERA jump from 1.67 prestart to 3.64 poststart when he gave up eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and five walks in only 2 2/3 innings. Maicer Izturis drove in all three Angels runs, two of which came on his fourth homerun.
Next up is four against the Mariners. All the Angels can do is win, and then hope the A’s lose. It’s not looking good though.
