The Angels and Tigers were scoreless until the bottom of the 12th when Garrett Anderson walked to score Macier Izturis for the 1-0 win.
The Angel offense produced nine hits on the game, but went 0 for 12 with RISP and left 15 men on base. In the bottom of the 12th, Izturis singled and was moved to third by Vlad’s single, his third hit of the night. Torii Hunter was intentionally walked to load the bases for Anderson. Anderson walked on four pitches from Tiger reliever Bobby Seay to allow Izturis to score the lone but winning run.
Jon Garland couldn’t have had a better game. He went 7 1/3, giving up just four hits, with five strikeouts, and no runs. Scot Shields came in to finish off the eighth to leave a Tigers baserunner on third and then pitched a hitless ninth. K-Rod came in for a scoreless ninth before Jose Arrendondo pitched two hitless, scoreless innings to earn his first major league victory.
Ervin Santana will take the mound tonight against Jeremy Bonderman. Santana will look for his seventh win, his first since May 5th. Back in April, Santana earned a victory against the Tigers, giving up 3 runs in 6 1/3. Bonderman stands at 3-4 and is 3-3 lifetime against the Angels.
The Angels have won seven of their last ten, but have learned of some bad news: Chone Figgins may be returning to the DL. He has played just one game since coming off the DL for his strained hamstring, but may be placed back on and would be retroactive to last week to allow for a possible June 6th date of return.
