by @ 11:49 am. Filed under 2008 Angels

The Angels snapped their win streak at five with a 12-inning loss on Wednesday. The Angels split the two-game series and still have an unbeaten streak of 20 series to AL teams.

The offense was led by Maicer Izturis, who was 3 for 5 with an RBI, and Teixeira, who was 3 for 6 with 3 RBI. The Angels put up one to tie it in the first and Teixeira’s two-run homerun in the third gave the Angels a two-run lead until the fifth. They regained the lead in the seventh when Jeff Mathis singled and scored on Izturis’ double. They then put up two more in the eighth when Garret Anderson walked and Howie Kendrick doubled and both scored on sacflies. K-Rod tied it in the ninth and Teixeira sent it to extras with his second homerun of the night. Mariners’ reliever Roy Corcoran then held the Angels to just one hit and a walk through the next three frames.

Ervin Santana threw a decent game but again failed to get his 14th win. He gave up a run in the first and held the Mariners scoreless until surrendering a solo homerun in the sixth. He left in the seventh after tallying 7 K’s and being tagged for three runs. Jose Arrendondo finished the inning and Scot Shields came on for the eighth, who got a blown save after giving up the tying run. The Angels regained the lead in the bottom half and on came K-Rod to close it out, but he suffered his fifth blown save after giving up three runs, all on two RBI-singles. He recorded just one out and was actually ejected as he walked away from the mound to head for the dugout. Darren Oliver cleaned up the mess and kept the Mariners scoreless for 2 2/3. Justin Speier then took the loss after giving up a three-run homerun in the 12th.

The Angels now take the road and head to Cleveland for a weekend series with the Indians. Jered Weaver will start on Friday, and will shoot for his 11th win after getting an easy one with plenty of run support in his last outing. he will face Cliff Lee, who leads the AL with 16 wins and an ERA of 2.45. Lee is 4-3 lifetime against the Angels.
