Ervin Santana took a no-hitter into the sixth and left after seven with the lead, but the bullpen allowed the Rays to come from behind and take the second game of the set.
Vlad gave the Angels a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo homerun. Garret Anderson then made it 2-0 with an RBI double in the fourth, which also extends his hit streak to 22 games. The Angels put up a 2-0 lead before the Rays even drove a hit, but they came back to take the lead in the eighth to hand the Angels their fifth loss in as many chances at Tropicana Field this year.
Santana took his no-hitter into the sixth and spread four hits out in two innings before leaving after seven with a one-run lead, and tallying nine strikeouts. Scott Shields came in for the eighth and walked two before Jeff Mathis made a throwing error to load the bases. Darren Oliver then walked in the tying run and gave the Rays the lead with a two-run single to Willy Aybar.
The loss now gives the Rays the AL lead in wins, with 77 while the Angels stand at 76. The Angels look to avoid the sweep tonight, sending Jered Weaver to face Matt Garza. The two are equal at 10 wins, with Weaver 2-0 lifetime against the Rays.
