John Lackey allowed two homeruns to Carlos Quentin in his eight-plus innings of work to take a 3-2 loss to miss out on the sweep.
The Angels were held to three hits by White Sox starter Jose Contreras who threw eight but took the no-decision. The only runs came in the fourth to tie it at 2-2 when Macier Izturis singled for the first hit of the game and Gary Matthews, Jr. drove him home with a blast to right-center. The only other Angel hit was a Garret Anderson double in the seventh. Contreras got the Angels for 10 K’s.
John Lackey went into the ninth with a 2-2 tie but gave up a leadoff homer to Quentin to take his first loss. Lackey had given up another homer to Quentin, a two-run homerun in the third.
The Angels head back home after going 4-2 on this roadtrip despite a .166 team batting average for the six games. They will host the Tigers beginning tonight at 6:05. Jon Garland will take the mound and go for his sixth win. Garland is 13-6 lifetime against the Tigers. He will face lefty veteran Kenny Rogers, who has an even 4-4 record with an elevated 6.66 ERA. Rogers didn’t pitch when the Angels and Tigers met in April in Detroit when the Angels took two of three from the Tigers.
