All the Angels needed was Vladimir Guerrero’s bat to beat the Jays 4-3, with all four runs being driven in by Vlad and his two homeruns, his 34th multi-homerun game in his career.
Vlad got his bat started in the first with a two-out solo homerun. The Jays tied it in the bottom half but the Angels took the lead by adding three runs in the fourth, again all from Vlad’s three-run homerun. The Angels managed four runs off just four hits, Vlad’s two homeruns and singles by Garrett Anderson and Chone Figgins.
Jon Garland earned his fifth win of the season, going six innings and giving up three runs on eight hits. Jose Arrendondo and Scot Shields then each pitched an inning to earn holds. K-Rod walked one in the ninth but got three outs, with the help of Anderson’s glove to steal an extra-base hit with the tying run on, to earn his nineteenth save.
Today’s game signaled the return of Figgins who was just activated from the DL. Figgins returns to the team as Erick Aybar is now sent to the 15-day DL for a dislocated pinky that occured in yesterday’s game when he tried to make a diving stop at short. Depending on how fast he heals, Aybar could be out for up to a month. This means that Macier Izturis will shift to short and Sean Rodriguez will likely become the everyday secondbaseman until Aybar returns, as Howie Kendrick still has a question mark next to his name for a date of return.
